What started as a handloom business venture in the year 2000 soon grew into a men’s ethnic apparel brand with kurtas, in a variety of styles and cuts, as the trademark offering. “As appreciation for the unique ethnic wear in the finest of fabrics with remarkable workmanship widened so did the demand. Sherwanis, indo-westerns, pathani suits, Jodhpuri coats, accessories and a special range for kids are today an intrinsic part of the collections at Kurta Palace”, informs Prabhjeet Singh, the owner. Located in the posh south extension market over an area of 3000 square feet, the comforting interiors of the store are a sight for the sore eyes. In the walls that adorn brick-like tiles, wooden shelves are well placed for displaying different collections that are highlighted with smart lighting arrangement on the roof. Here, the wisely selected pictures of Rajput warriors and swords on the walls aptly reflect the personality of the outfits- regal, sharp and impactful. You can instantly check how an outfit looks on you in the strategically positioned full length mirrors. Besides, you can also go for a trial in any of the two spacious try-rooms in the store.
Calling Kurta Palace as one-stop shop for men’s wedding shopping is no exaggeration as the variety here is wide enough to suit multiple ceremonies and different tastes. And the plethora of stole, jutti, safa, kalgi, and cravat options only add to the joy of shopping here. “Unlike most designer labels, here you would find fine ethnic attires with intricate detailing on fabrics like pure silks, jacquard, khin khab and merino wool in reasonable prices”, shares Singh. Besides, sherwanis in trendy cuts and styles as well as the classic ones that have been a regular favourite in all wedding seasons, all are available here. Elaborating on the workmanship, Singh says, “The brand specialises in pin-tuck, anchor-stitch, and fine embroidery- both machine and hand. A couple of sherwanis have been created in fabrics carrying the contemporary laser-cut texture, which gives an impeccable look to the entire outfit.”
Whether you shop for a few thousands or you buy apparels amounting to lakhs, here one thing you can rest assured of is to get value for money. “Kurta Palace has always been a quality conscious company. We have tie-ups with concerned authorities to ensure that the silk and swarovski, we procure, are of the highest quality. We source fabrics right from Varanasi, Bhagalpur or Kashmir as per the designing requirement. Zero compromise on quality has been one of our ladders to success”, vouches Singh. The in-house manufacturing unit further assures that there is always stringent check on the quality.

Rather than stacking clothes just to up the volume, the label focuses on presenting their customers with classy ensembles that make for a statement look. There is a small section, especially reserved for cotton kurta sets in classic white, beige, and pastel colours. These outfits make for an ideal choice to create an ethnic and subtle look on occasions like puja and shagun. There is also ample variety in pathani suits, fit for ceremonies like mehendi-ki-raat, sagan, pad fera, etc. Some of the stand out pieces definitely includes a Kashmiri kurta that exudes warmth of a traditional shawl, elegance of fine Kashmiri fabric and charm of traditional motifs. Another classy number is a well-structured black Jodhpuri jacket in velvet fabric with patterned work of zari dori thread. Sherwani crafted from premium laser-cut textured net fabric over classy khin khab fabric is yet another one amongst the noteworthy attires.
You will not find a repeatition of designs and styles in any collection- be it apparel or accessory. The Pakistani jutti, handmade safas, and multi-coloured bandhini stoles are worth a special mention.
Kurta Palace has a long list of loyal clientele including many high profile celebrities, industrialists and members of parliament. At a diplomatic event, where they were hired to design Jodhpuris for a Japanese delegation, Singh chanced upon a meeting with Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister. A picture of this moment prettily adorns the wall behind the billing counter of the store. “Incidentally, Gursharan Kaur, wife of Dr. Singh, shopped here with their daughter and son-in-law a few years after I put up the photo frame, which she saw and enquired about”, happily shares Singh. The high-end ethnic wear label for men has catered to the sartorial needs of seasoned actor Kamal Haasan as well.
At present, Kurta Palace is exclusively an ethnic-wear boutique for men. But soon the label is going to expand its wings for ably catering to ladies bridal wear as well. The infrastructure development is in full swings at the store. The upper level is being redesigned, particularly for the niche wedding market. As Singh puts it, “this section will have only select but designer wear for brides and grooms. Keeping in sync with the royal wedding collection that we plan to offer, the interiors are also being done in extravagant style. Here, the finest of bridal lehengas and sarees, and wedding sherwanis, not more than 30 to 35 in number will be displayed, so that interested customers get the best of wedding collections from all over under a single roof. The idea is to lessen the confusion and enhance the shopping experience for the customers.” Although the section is not fully ready, yet the golden-coloured rooftop and chic lighting arrangement give just the apt glimpse of how glamorous it is going to look once completed.

If you are heading for wedding outfit shopping or you are looking for some classy Indian ensembles, now you know where to go. Though you have to visit to believe it but let us take the opportunity and label this fine men’s fashion boutique as a groom’s shopping paradise.
