Editor's Review

Couture for the groom is a much-evolved segment now with the conventional trousseau makers having given way to edgy silhouettes, tonal variations and art blends. The contemporary groom-to-be like his would-be-bride also wants to look different and cut a picture of modern elegance, suave style and subdued bling.
Gaurav Chhabra’s collection is based on straight line clothing, retaining the very basic elements of covetable yet wearable styles and the superior quality of craftsmanship. Though the fabrics and embroideries are reminiscent of the golden era of yesteryear; Gaurav has treated them beautifully with solid structuring, fused silhouettes and edgy ornamentation. The silhouettes are sharp and defined with emphasis on fabric, cuts and a lot of vibrant detailing.
Talking about trends he says, “There is a whole new palette of shades and blends in the groom’s wear universe. Most prospective grooms are moving away from the oh-so-obvious off white and beiges to turquoise, silver, washed gold, rose gold, blue etc.”
He further adds, “Menswear has evolved and has come of age in the recent years in terms of colours, cuts and silhouettes and we craft and reflect the change—we walk the path of innovation to capture this ‘now’ mood of experimentation.”
With their passion for creating quality garments for the groom, GOC has carved a niche for itself in the men’s clothing segment–ethnic wear, formal wear and wedding wear. GOC specialises in a complete range of wedding wear–sherwanis, Jodhpuris, kurta-pyjamas along with accessories for weddings. For the new generation groom, they have floor length anarkali sherwanis which are truly flamboyant and have been specially crafted with broad belts used as waistbands. Indo-Western jackets with interesting cuts to be worn stylishly over kurta-pyjamas or pants are a part of the collection. The garments are tailored on fabrics like tanchoi silk, brocade and silk.
Backed by a talented team, one thing that they never compromise on is perfect finishing. Colour and design coordination also forms an essential part of designing wedding wear. As the duo sums it up, “The outfits are designed keeping the bride’s outfits in mind so that they complement each other in terms of the overall theme/look, colour scheme and embroidery pattern. The final look is an in-sync and coordinated one that is both a pleasure for the beholder and a matter of couture bliss for the couple in spotlight.”

Celebrating Feminity...
After creating a niche in the groom’s wear segment, Rashmi and Gaurav Chhabra have ventured into women’s wear with an avant-garde fashion line, aiming to celebrate femininity with innovation as its premise. The beau monde launch took place in Delhi’s elite Eros Hotel and saw many socialites and celebrities joining in to appreciate Rashmi’s new feat! Keeping innovation at seam, the newly launched collection appears as a stark amalgamation of the traditional and the modern. It works on both ends of the spectrum ... from the latest technology on one end to working with traditional Indian embroideries on the other.
It not only brings you a step closer to finesse and design excellence but also speaks the language of comfort and class. This move will please Rashmi’s existing female customers, who have been wearing her label since several years! The label is especially designed for the ‘upmarket metro women’. The line comprises of stylish separates and ensembles which are opulent yet functional. The collection is a mix of cocktail dresses, gowns, draped sarees, and sherwanis which are luxurious and sexy.

Speaking about the latest coup, Rashmi says, “A woman should be two things— classy and fabulous. And that’s what I am looking to provide to the phenomenal women of today. Also, the collection raises a toast to the matches that are made in heaven but celebrated on earth, especially in North of India.”
She adds,” For me, it is always about personal styling and doing your own thing. My buyer is a woman who is well travelled, enjoys culture, cuisine and art around the world. Therefore, our signature collection is inspired from exotic destinations across the world. Giving in inspiration to the modern day bride, the collection brings in enchanting Egyptian motifs that spread nothing but magic. And launching my own label is like a milestone in a bid to propagate personalised style and of course, to take the business forward.”
As per the ace designer, the new label is especially dedicated to all super women and the beauty that lies within each one which makes them extra ordinary.
Most of the collection makes use of the modish four-way lycra net as it is a body-hugging fabric and fits any figure effortlessly. Talking about her obsession with lycra net, Rashmi replied, “It is a man-made pliable fiber and I’ve used it with satin because it can never be used alone. Also, it is beneficiary to blend this fabric with other fibers to bring the best out of it. It certainly possesses unique stretching and recovery properties which adds comfort, fit, shape retention, durability and freedom of movement.”
Further to this, she says, “The collection also has a generous use of fine fabrics such as rich velvet sand antique cut outs for a luxurious look.”
Taking the contemporary route, the collection also displays a range of digitally printed outfits. The gowns were embodied with antique beads and engraved with kundan. Also on display was the extraordinarily resplendent sherwani that was made out of the tussur with velvet appliqué embroidery glued to it. It was well complemented with a beautiful net dupatta.
So, for all the women who have knack for exclusivity, Rashmi Chhabra’s collection is sure to treat you well!
