The Great Indian Family Wedding Show

By Sanhati Banerjee

Here's How Joshika Kapoor got married to her since nursery friend Mohit Piplani in a truly warm and vibrant wedding put together by the painstaking efforts of the entire family. As it was said in a certain romantic hindi film that nothing can be better than being married to your best friend!

Meet the young-and-vivacious 29-year-old bride, Joshika Kapoor, a PR company owner in her own right who recently got married to Mohit Piplani, who owns a travel portal. So, this is the childhood-friends-turned-husband-and-wife story as they have been together since nursery in the same class and same section till 8th standard! However, they were only friends then and had also lost touch and they connected again a few years back and it just clicked the right way and soon they decided to tie the knot.

Pre-Wedding Ceremonies

The sangeet and engagement ceremonies took place at Lutyen’s Lounge, no theme was there as such but the décor was oriented more towards pink whereas the mehendi happened at their residence and the theme for that was yellow befitting a blissful spring wedding.

At the sangeet, the bride wore a pink lehenga with silver work bought from a Kolkata-based designer and the makeup was done at Plum Studio, GK-2. Whereas on the mehendi, Joshika wore a yellow lehenga with red blouse and a green dupatta which was self-designed by the bride and her mom. It was something that they already had in her mind and it came out just the way she wanted. All the jewellery for all the functions was designed by the bride’s mother, Ritu Kapoor, who is a professional jewellery designer.

The groom’s attire on mehendi was a cream kurta-pyjama with beige embroidery and his sangeet outfit was a balck bandhgala.

The Wedding

The venue for the wedding was Brij Greens and the decoration was based on the themes of gold, yellow and orange…the flowers were in shades of orange and yellow to suit the theme.

While Joshika wore a red lehenga with all-over zardozi work and her makeup was done at Plum Studio and her jewellery was designed by mom; Mohit wore a sherwani in a mix of cream and gold.

The entire event was planned by the family – the bride’s brother and her parents and the bride herself presenting a truly hands-down modern day bride brimming with ideas and plans. They didn’t have any event planner per say. So, the entire event was put together by the family and it was truly an Indian family wedding show. From selecting the venues to food and decorations down to to choosing the venue etc. – her brother, Jatin Kapoor and parents did the majority of the planning. The bride’s brother, despite the fact that he was getting married two days after his sister’s wedding, helped his sister fully in planning and executing her wedding. So, it was a week full of celebrations.

The invites were designed and printed by the bride’s father, Neeraj Kapoor who has his own printing press.

In the typical spirit and true tradition of a fun-filled and gala Punjabi wedding, a DJ was there at all the functions. The couple danced on Dilliwali girlfriend and from both sides there were close friends and family members who performed for the couple. Especially memorable are the performances by the groom’s and the bride’s friends. The bride’s twin brother also gave a touching speech.

The Twin Wedding & the New Beginning

In what marked a new beginning in the life of this couple, the entire celebration culminated in defining this new phase in their lives. The bride says “We would want to thank each and everyone who came for the wedding and made it special for us. We have many relatives from abroad and outside Delhi who flew down especially for the weddings of both the sides and the good part is my brother got married on 4th Feb and we on 1st Feb; so the families could attend both the weddings.”
