The Bride & The Groom

The bride Shivani Dhingra is a fashion entrepreneur and daughter of Delhi-based business baron Sudhir Dhingra who is the Chairman and Managing Director of Orient Craft and Manju Dhingra. Shivani tied the knot with Reuben Bajaj, the son of Washington-based IT entrepreneurs Kavelle and Ken Bajaj.

How Shivani got hitched to Rueben

Manju Dhingra and Kavelle Bajaj are long-time friends. The families have known each other for years. Rueben and Shivani first met in Florence and after that they keep meeting each other in Europe and India; they fell in love and eventually decided to get married.

The Curtain Raiser
The dream spring-summer wedding in Delhi created and conceptualised by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla and produced and executed by Jai and Sonali of E-Factor Entertainment (P) Ltd left an indelible mark on everyone’s memory. According to the famed couturiers, Shivani was a dream and an inspiration to work with as she had complete trust in the entire creative process.

The concepts evolved over a period of six months during their various intensive meetings and creative discussions.

The following themes were shortlisted for the functions:
Sangeet- Organic, Sufi
Reception of Baraat- Sonar Kella- “Palace of Gold”

Anandkaraj: Pristine, pious and religious ambience for ceremonial area and stylish, chic and elegant décor for the dining area.

The concept drawing sketches for all the three major events were finalised along with the detailed floor plans. Once everything was finalised, a wedding of this size had to be extensively planned including every minute detail. Looking at the expanse of work and time in hand, a proper time chart was made to monitor every day’s progress.

The Sangeet

The sangeet site at F-25 had a huge built up AC and waterproofed structure of about 10,000 sq ft. The sidewalls at certain places had clear openings so that guests could enjoy the lush greenery outdoors. A massive clear ceiling height of about 24 ft was required for various ceiling installations. 16000 mts of specially hand crushed off white cotton was extensively used for this special ceremony.

Closer to the event date, there was close to a team of 200 workers working, which included about 65 florists, 40 drapists and a team of skilled craftsmen for the final finishing touches.

The Reception

The next event was Reception of baraat, which was the biggest of all the events. The work started at this site also about 20-22 days before. 14000 sq ft of the event area had to be created along with 2500 sq ft of special VIP enclosure. The entire set was made in fiberglass and then was finished off with special paint finishes done by the special painters. Lot of intricate mirror mosaic work had to be done on the set for enhancement. Intricate mirchi lighting work on the entry façade, dome structures and the dining area façade was the central highlight of the design.

The Princess Look: The palace feel of the reception décor inspired the designers to do a very regal princess-like look on Shivani as her looks and jewellery complemented their views of an Indian princess — very soft and ethereal with soft and dewy makeup. A lot of glamorous hair extensions here and there added to the glam quotient.

The ‘Sonar Kella’ theme, drawing its nomenclature from a famous Satyajit Ray film of the same name came alive in all its out-of-the-world opulence and majesty with its nostalgic share of golden palaces and fortresses; a site that had all the guests spellbound!

The Anandkaraj

The Anandkaraj was an early morning event.

The back lawn of the Orient farm was used to host the ceremonies. Two marvellously done up mandap/vedi in the form of a gurudwara and a temple formed the prime essence in this ceremonial area.

A small marquee of 1600 sqft was created for the breakfast. Shades of pink enlightened this marquee along with tall and lush florals on each table.

The lunch area was the same area that was used for sangeet and so in a gap of one day, this had to be completely transformed into the wedding thematics. The ceiling drapes and side drapes changed to pink from crinkled off white. Mirror umbrellas gave way to floral chandeliers. Lunch tables decked up extensively with tall exotic florals transformed the look of the event. Crystals were extensively used for embellishment.

At the Anandkaraj ceremony the pheras saw a mix of a Kama Sutra queen style for the bride which was accentuated with the use of an elegant matha patti. The hair was done in a truly beautiful modern Indian bride style updo, which complemented her doe eyed sultry kajaal look and created magic on the mandap as well as matched her bidaai look.

The wedding dates were from 29th March-31st March ’12.
Makeup Artist for the Sangeet: Shivani’s makeup was done by Delhi-based makeup artist, Jyoti Kumar.
Makeup Artist for Reception of Baraat and Anand Karaj: Ojas Rajani
Wedding Choreography/Music: The family sangeet choreography was done by Delhi-based choreographer Praveen.
Star Performer: Mika
Music: Special tracks for all momentous occasions were created by DJ Gaurav Malvai
The event witnessed glitteratis like designer Sandeep Khosla, TarunTahiliani, Tanisha Mohan, Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor, Neena Verma, Ramneek Pantal, Gaurav Gupta and Meera and Mujafar Ali to name a few.

The most beautiful wedding I've ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous. Everything was absolutely perfect. I wish the bride and groom a lifetime as beautiful as this wedding was. #stunning
