For all the human beings who think working out is boring, think again! Pilates (pronounced puh-lah-teez and not pie-lates) is working out while lounging, yes, you read that right! Pilates is more than just a workout. So, pull out your gym mat and get ready to do a series of movements that will stabilize and strengthen your core. Any person who’s been doing it for at least a couple of months knows that Pilates doesn’t only sculpt your body but it also clears your mind and gives you energy and inner serenity. And with so many exercise variations and progressions, you may have a hard time getting bored with Pilates. lead

Here’s a bit of trivia for you: Pilates is named after its inventor, Joseph Pilates, a former carpenter and gymnast who invented the exercise for injured dancers. Many of the moves were inspired by yoga or patterned after the movements of zoo animals such as swans, seals, and big cats.

Pilates for Brides-to-be

It’s well known that brides want their wedding day to be perfect! Every detail from invitations to flowers and decorations, but most importantly, looking amazing in their wedding dress, is a must. Bridal fitness is very specific and best not left to generic boot camps. So, brides can use Pilates to tone their entire body, focusing on their upper extremities (arms, shoulders, and back) to look fabulous for their wedding day. It’s effective and efficient, even on a tight schedule.

Ms. Neeru Sharma, Pilates Teacher at Transformation 101 Fitness & Lifestyle Studio proposed a pilates workout regime for our dear brides-to-be:

The whole regime is designed around six principles, she says:

  • Concentration
  • Control
  • Centre
  • How
  • Precision
  • Breathing

Week 1: Start with the first 10 fundamental exercises of a classical Pilate’s workout, including a fundamental warm-up. The Hundred,  The Roll Up, The Roll Over, One Leg Circle, Rolling Like a Ball, Single Leg Stretch,  Double Leg Stretch,  Spine Stretch, and Open Leg Rocker.

Week 2: Warm up with the 10 fundamental exercises and add the following exercises – Pelvic Curl, Cat/Cow Stretch, Arms Reach and Pull, and Side Kick Series.

Week 3: Warm up with the 10 fundamental exercises and add the following exercises – The Saw, Swan Prep Pilates, Side Kick Series, Leg Pull Front, and Pilate Push-ups.

Week 4: Combine all the exercises with holding postures and tone up for a big day.

Pilates Is For Everyone

Pilates caters for everyone, from beginner to advanced. You can perform exercises using your own body weight, or with the help of various pieces of equipment. A typical Pilates workout includes a number of exercises and stretches. Each exercise is performed with attention to proper breathing techniques and abdominal muscle control. To gain the maximum benefit, you should do Pilates at least two or three times per week. You may notice postural improvements after 10 to 20 sessions.
