Classic Embroideries on Modern Couture

By Sanhati Banerjee

Give in to the big bridal temptation of the fall-winter season as Shehla Khan presents her fairytale collection with the right mix of vintage glamour and contemporary grace. Soft fabrics inducing romance are seen to be courting shimmer and regal embroideries played out on a canvas of ivory and beige offering understated couture to the modern brides-to-be.

Designer Shehla Khan introduces her exquisite new bridal collection, comprising of classic and elegant silhouettes perfect for the new age bride!
Taking inspiration from royal Indian families, Shehla’s bridal collection comprises of beautiful old ethnic embroideries such as gota, chikan, zardozi and resham on rich fabrics like chiffons, crinkled chiffons, georgettes and net. In terms of colour, Shehla believes ivory and beige have a regal feel to them and will perfectly complement the artistic and carefully crafted embroidery. The trends she feels will be big this season are A-line kali ghaghras, hand painted and lehengas highlighted with embroidery, layered ghaghras and of course stitched sarees.
All her garments are made on supple and soft fabrics which are 100 percent pure and feel beautiful on the skin. According to Shehla, old ethnic embroideries are always the safest and most ethereal for bridal wear, “Real zari work and zardozi-inspired by old royal costumes are perfect for bridal wear, however, I would always advise a bride to wear what makes her feel beautiful and at the same time be comfortable as every bride should not only look but feel her best on that special day too.”
